Founded in 1969 when Hilfiger opened a small amount of chain stores called Peoples Place, his goal was to bring “cool city styles” from New York to his friends in their small town upstate. Hilfiger’s signature collection was introduced in the mid-‘80s, lending time-honoured classics a fresh look. Throughout his creative efforts as a designer, Hilfiger has developed lasting relationships with an array of influencers and trendsetters. In 1985 Hilfiger developed the now famous “hangman ad” for New York’s Times Square, and in the ‘90s, fused music and fashion by featuring musical talent in his advertising campaigns.
